RUS Bulletin 1730B-121 recommends periodic pole reviews based on five decay zones, relative to the region of review. Suggestions by RUS are as follows:

Zone 1 should have an initial review in 12 to 15 yrs with a subsequent review after 12 yrs.
Zones 2 & 3 should have an initial review in 10 to 12 yrs with a subsequent review after 10 yrs.
Zones 4 & 5 have a recommended 8 to 10 year initial review with a subsequent review after 8 yrs.

Total System Review

Our services are available for the entire system including: substation, circuit, or Work Order, based on desire or system needs. We have the expertise and experience to execute a specialized turn-key project that includes a variety of services with project management, supervision, and final review of the project. Our available services include:

Check pole from ground line to top including defective materials, rot, cracks, holes, breaks and cross-arms and braces
Check sag in conductors, low secondary and services, broken guy wire attachments and anchors
Check Right-of-Way clearances, cables, and code violations (Draw staking sheets of needed repairs)
Locate by GPS, poles, meters and other electrical devices
Replace old meters with AMR, if needed
Attribute each point to the owner’s mapping system and with information as needed for the electric system update
Check for defects relative to radio interference: cracked insulators, insulator contamination, arcing, loose/broken hardware, etc
Install guy guards as advised
Perform post-storm reviews and provide restoration assistance
Perform FEMA reviews
